GAVIN BAZUNU will not play again in 2024 after he underwent an Achilles operation.
Bazunu pulled up in the warm-up before Southampton’s game against Preston North End on Tuesday and it was later confirmed that he had torn his Achilles.

The Ireland keeper immediately underwent surgery and he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Southampton boss Russell Martin said: “Gavin had an operation yesterday.
“He’s ruptured his Achilles tendon so it was as bad as we feared. He will be out for around 9 to 10 months.
“I spoke to him before the operation and he wasn’t in a good place but last night he was way more positive.
“We will rally behind him. We’re really devastated for Gav.
“But he’ll get through it and be stronger for it. We look forward to seeing him on Monday.
“Gavin has had a huge setback, there will be some dark and lonely moments over the next 10 months. We will support him and get around him.”
Bazunu’s lay-off means he will miss the entire Nations League campaign, due to be presided over by the new Ireland head coach.
Ireland will face England, Finland and Greece in six games between September and November.
Last month, John O’Shea started Caoimhín Kelleher against Belgium in his first game as interim boss before giving Bazunu the nod against Switzerland.
Bazunu was favoured by previous manager Stephen Kenny and the ex-Shamrock Rovers keeper bounced back from losing his club place and relegation for Southampton to play a big part in their promotion push this season.
Kelleher’s lack of regular football at Liverpool had stymied his efforts to be first-choice for his country.
He impressed whilst standing in for Alisson but is now back on the bench with the Brazilian fit again.
Mark Travers – the other keeper regularly in the squad – is also second fiddle at his club, Bournemouth, with the uncapped Max O’Leary playing regularly for Bristol City.
