KELLIE HARRINGTON has been warned that her past is going to catch up with her tonight.
Harrington beat Beatriz Ferreira in a split decision to take gold in Tokyo and the pair meet again in a semi-final tonight.
The bout – along with Rhys McClenaghan’s pommel horse final– promises to be one of the Irish highlights on Day Eight of the Olympics.
Ferreira, 31, was furious with the scoring at the time and is looking forward to making amends this evening.
Ferreira said: “She ran and ran, but we meet again, at the Olympic Games, an irony of fate, right?
“We’re going to go after this victory, since I didn’t accept defeat in Tokyo.
“I’m going to fight tooth and nail to come out victorious.”
And the Brazilian has warned Harrington that she has only gotten better in the meantime.
She said: “I think I’ve matured a lot.
“We have three more years, I’ve had a lot of fights, I went to professional boxing, so I’ve been learning. I learn a little more every day.
“I didn’t accept the result at that time, but I studied my fight a lot to know why I hadn’t convinced them.
“And I hope to do everything to convince those who are judging this time.”
