But he faces two-time world champion and reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in his final pool game and only the pool winners progress to the knockout stages.

Elsewhere, It was Maddison havin’ you at Stade de France as Ireland’s women’s sevens were dumped out by Australia in the quarter-finals.

Maddison Levi scored a hat-trick in the opening 5½ minutes to hand the Aussies a 17-0 lead and take her tally to 11 tries for the tournament.

And an error from the kick-off following Levi’s third touchdown led to Australia’s fourth.

Beibhinn Parsons missed the catch, Sariah Paki collected and the ball was passed wide to Faith Nathan, who ran for the line for a 26-0 half-time lead.

The Aussies picked up where they left off in the second period, with Isabella Nasser going over within 80 seconds for a 33-0 advantage.

Stacey Flood pulled a try back to prevent a whitewash before Bienne Terita dotted down in the last minute.

Allan Temple-Jones’ side had put in a spirited performance in the 19-14 reverse to the same opponents earlier yesterday but there was only one team in the last-eight clash.

Ireland go into today’s play-off games to determine where they finish.
